New filamentous fungus Sagenomella chlamydospora responsible for a disseminated infection in a dog.

چکیده
A filamentous fungus that caused a fatal systemic infection in a dog has been identified as the new species Sagenomella chlamydospora. When the case was initially reported, the fungus was identified as Paecilomyces sp. This study emphasizes how difficult can be the identification of the causative agent of an infection when an uncommon microorganism is involved. This is the first time that this genus has been involved in animal infections, including humans.

Fungal myelitis caused by Phialosimplex caninus in an immunosuppressed dog.
A bone marrow infection caused by Phialosimplex caninus was diagnosed in a seven-year-old female spayed Cocker Spaniel that was receiving prednisone for autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Histopathologic examination of a bone marrow core biopsy revealed clusters of oval to round yeast-like cells of varying shape and size and occasional irregular hyphae. Culture of a bone marrow aspirate sample yielde...
متن کاملRole of calcineurin in stress resistance, morphogenesis, and virulence of a Candida albicans wild-type strain.
By generating a calcineurin mutant of the Candida albicans wild-type strain SC5314 with the help of a new recyclable dominant selection marker, we confirmed that calcineurin mediates tolerance to a variety of stress conditions but is not required for the ability of C. albicans to switch to filamentous growth in response to hypha-inducing environmental signals. While calcineurin was essential fo...
متن کاملClinical and morphologic findings in disseminated Scedosporium apiospermum infections in immunocompromised patients.
Scedosporium apiospermum is a ubiquitous, saprophytic, filamentous mold that may cause localized, subcutaneous infections in immunocompetent hosts, but disseminated infection in severely immunocompromised patients. This mold is often highly resistant to multiple commonly used antifungal drugs. Even with treatment, there is a high mortality rate. We present two patients with fatal disseminated S...
متن کاملDisseminated fusariosis occurring in two patients despite posaconazole prophylaxis.
Posaconazole is widely used for prophylaxis against invasive fungal infections in patients undergoing myeloablative therapy. Disseminated fusariosis is a serious invasive mold infection in such patients. Preclinical and clinical studies indicate activity of posaconazole against Fusarium. We describe two cases of disseminated fusariosis that occurred despite posaconazole prophylaxis.
متن کاملTrichosporon and trichosporonosis
Trichosporon is a genus of anamorphic fungi in the family Trichosporonaceae. All species of Trichosporon are yeasts with no known teleomorphs. Most are typically isolated from soil, but several species occur as a natural part of the skin microbiota of humans and other animals. Proliferation of Trichosporon yeasts in the hair can lead to an unpleasant but non-serious condition known as white pie...
